The Gabrielle dress

The Gabrielle dress is a pattern from Semawork magazine, in the may issue. I subscribe to Seamwork, but I haven’t made up that many of there patterns lately. But I totally fell for the Gabrielle dress.

From Seamwork:

The Gabrielle dress is a modern take on the classic skater dress. It features a tied back yoke with a cut-out that lets just the right amount of your upper back peek through.

The princess seams and flared skirt provide a flattering silhouette. This dress features a slight scoop neckline that is complimented by sweet cap sleeves. The Gabrielle dress is fitted through the bust and waist, while the flared skirt swings loosely throughout the hips.

I made mine in a size M that corresponded with my messsurments, but would size down if I make it again. And I might make it again the bodice and the cut-out back are a nice design on a skater dress.

I would maybe try to make it a sleeveless dress without the capsleevs, because they keep curling up to the dress on the hem.

In this photo I wear the dress with a strapless bra, and I should have made sure the bra was not visible in the pictures. But to be clear you can se the bra straps if you wear a regular bra, but I don’t really care. You can see it with a regular bra in this Instagrampicture of the dress from me-made-may

I did not try to pattern match this fabric, and since it turned out like this I maybe should have. It kind of looks like I tried and failed miserable. So it might be smart to go for a fabric with a little less print.

Almada robe

I am easing in to non stretch fabrics with patterns to wear around the home, and where the fit can be a little off. This robe is also from seamwork, as my Astoria post. I loved the pictures of it when it came in the february issue. But I didn´t finnish it before last week. Time and life, got in the way.

I cut out a size small, that corresponds to my measurements. The robe is vide, so it would fit most people. My only problem is that I am only 158 cm, and I find it a tad short. But as I am only wearing it in inside my own house, who cares?

The pattern only have 4 pattern pieces, front – back – cuffs and ties. I removed the seam allowance from the back, and cut it on the fold. That way I did not  need to think of pattern matching. If you make one of the smaller sizes this works out fine.

This was my first time adding bias binding to a garment, and it was quit easy. The construction did not take so much time, but if you only do one seam from time to time, it takes time.. I will definitely say this is a great beginners pattern. All seamworkpatterns I have used is great for a beginner.

The fabric is a cotton sateen from Stoff & stil, which I bought for this pattern. It is soft, and feels great to lounge in. I also thinsk the print looks great with this kind of kimonostyle robe.

One of my favorite things is still that I added a hoop at the top so I can hang it easily in my bathroom.

The Astoria

I have made two very successful versions of the Astoria pullover from Seamwork. I got the pattern before I started to subscribe, and it was the pattern that made me start to subscribe. If you have not heard of semawork before, check them out.

The dust pink one was my second attempt,after a velvet one that I don’t really use. It is made in a ponte de roma fabric from stoff & stil. It is a size small, with no alterations. The length of the sweater is perfect over dresses, and hits my natural waist. After realizing that the pink one was either on me or in the washing machine, I decided that I needed another one.

Meet my black astoria. A simpel make, but one that filled a big gap in my wardrobe. This is also a size small no alterations. I can squees one out of 1 meter of fabric, and it takes me only one hour to sew after cutting now. This one is also in a ponte de roma from stoff and stil. And I see many more in my future. I need to find som mustard yellow ponte, to make a fall version!
